Is this song about Bryan's dad or something. It seems like he's trying to reach out to his dad or something because didn't his dad didn't appreciate or something. |

wanted to send him to military cos of the relationship he was having with Crosby, I guess, playing gigs on acoustics at the Troubadour or somewhere

Bryan didn't have a good relationship with his biological dad based on the interview his mom gave to somewhere. |

If only we would see him (Old Man)....the gift (wisdom) is there for the taking; we just need to accept it.
Some think the "OLD MAN" is Arthur, but I can't see Bryan writing a song like that about Arthur, especially with the way their relationship had gone down hill so quickly by then.
Arthur certainly had a kind of "old man" wisdom in his music & lyrics at that tender age.

I think of him as a kind of Father Time figure....wandering the Earth for eternity and uniquely gifted with wisdom. |
