Of course ,some of the theme songs were pretty good. Rawhide , even Davy Crockett. It was the stuff of legendary men.

This one always intrigued me. They actually made a movie with the same title but the song was not in it.

Some powerful lines and powerful vocals.

"From the moment a girl gets to be full grown
The very first thing she learns
When two men go out to face each other
Only one returns"

Just chilling

Love that 'western' stuff'...

And probably most of you know about that Italian fellow, Ennico Morricone. Those soundtracks of his bring you there a bit! Once Upon a Time in the West is great!...

Great choice! Beau Brummels are great, unfortunally they dont really get the praise they deserve. Yeah Morricone! Cant remember name of his compositions, but all Morricone duell scenes with Eastwood movies and once upon a time must be strong best ever gunslinger track candidates!

Not usually too big on the whole country/western thing but,I have always adored the Flying Burrito Brothers' mammothly important "Guilded Palac Of Sin".I must admit I still haven't heard the Byrds' "Sweetheart of the Rodeo".You know who I was kind of surprised to find out who are really big country fans?Messrs. Jagger and Richards! But then I should have should have know this from the fact that the Stones first got famous by playing rock and roll more derivitavely than the Beatles.Everybody knows what great bluesmen they've always been.Along with Gospel,Country is one of the other ingredients of "true" rock and roll form. The appropriately aforementioned Johnny Cash was one of the keys to the early country-rock kingdom.

I always hate the country moniker since for me implies the worst of music corporate drivel from Nashville.

I like to think of it as Americana rock, and Johnny Cash was the MAN.

Try those Beau Brummels I posted. Americana.

This is notso much a gunslinger song but nevertheless. Waylon Jennings Rebel soldier a folk song made around the time of the gruesome civil war. Americas darkest hour for sure but there were some fantastic tunes made during the war, especially in the south. Here is one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TzcyNwZU-Q

There is a fantastic scene in "Deadwood",best tv serie Ive seen along Sopranos. Wild Bill Hickock has been killed at the poker table, and this great but also disturbing melody is playing to the chaotic situation right after. Again not actually a gunslinger tune but still, one of the best western scores ever recorded!

I wouldn't mess with this guy. His fee was $1000, a hefty sum for his time.
