seems a Hendrix/Love acetate from Blue Thumb has turned up, with a jam
and a couple tracks of unreleased material

in addition to "Everlasting First" of course!

item 270414450771

$500 is too much for me - maybe Keith Dion will get it for all of us!

wow - nice find! has anybody here heard Ezy Ryder or the jam (tracks 2 and 3)? I've gotta think they made their way to a bootleg at some point...

KD: Wow ! Is right. Wonder who's been hanging on to this
all these years. If it's legit it's a major find. $500
is a bit much for me though, as I hear this session should be
released in it's entirety sometime in the next few years anywho.

And no, these unreleased tracks have never found there way
onto bootlegs or are known to be in anyone's private or uncirculated
collections.

So much for these very valuable session tapes being "erased".

Free the tapes !

Much as I'd love for this thing to be legit, it's a little tough not
to question it's authenticity. I have a number of acetates from the
same period of time, and without exception, they've all had either
typed or hand-written labels, with no reference whatsoever to the
artist's contracted record company. But, you never know. I have to
wonder when the good folks at Experience Hendrix will step forward to
be heard about this, too. Janie and her gang tend to be pretty much
ever vigilant, y'know? It'll be interesting to see how this one plays
out, that's for sure....

The fellow has good feedback though

Wonder if he got the acetate from Bob Krasnow..

Too bad theres no video or sound to the auction, so you can actually hear whats on the disc!

Gary Rowles documents these sessions quite well in his sleeve notes interview for False Start. I subscribe to the theory that if something really does exist then it will turn up sooner or later. I suppose that the problem is that only posterity can determine what is really valuable and that perhaps back in 1970 Bob Krasnow thought the recording dispensable once the edit for the album had been made. After all, he would not have known that this would turn out to be Love's final album.....or that Jimi Hendrix would pass away just a few months later at such a young age. It is interesting to recall what Arthur says in the sleevenotes for the Out There compilation. "I overheard him (Bob Krasnow)say that if this album (False Start) was not in the top ten, he would tear up my contract. I asked him if I could have that in writing."

as far as authenticity is concerned...I don't know who the seller is, exactly, but they sell nothing but Blue Thumb items. you never know, but to me it certainly seems legit.

False Start wasn't the last Love album - Real to Reel (1974) has that dubious honor, although its not on cd, curiously (aside from a track on a cd sampler some months back)

I'm more curious - wasn't the Hendrix/Lee session filmed?

I would buy from the seller myself. He doesn't seem to have any negatives, always a good sign

Theres a great story in issue 13 of the Castle where some poor guys looking for YEARS for the New Rose (France) album

I do a cover of Five String Serenade. Don't do it justice by any means..

of course "The watcher" is worth the price of admission!

I tend to like Arthur doing songs unplugged - I have a live show where hes doing "Tell her no" by the Zombies on his acoustic... Sweet!!

So, this item went for over $2,000.00! I'm guessing to a well-off Hendrix
fan rather than to any of us "money-is-no-object" Love fans, but one
never knows. It would sure be nice to learn what that ten minute long
jam was like....how would you like to have dropped $2,025.00 on it, and
then discovered that Jimi, Arthur, and the band drop out after ninety
seconds or so, to make room for an eight minute drum solo, even if it
was a really, really great drum solo?

Gary Rowles says that it is the same guitar riff that we all know so well - repeated indefinitely - and with variations.

Well,

I talked to the fellows selling it. i did place a bid, but it got too out of control for me, but they did offer me a tape for $150 bucks. So we'll see.

What sucks is my Vindicator promo poster may get auctioned off in storage..jeez man, this is what happens when you trust someone else to look after your things.

KD: Hey Thomas - well the good new at least on this is that
it is indeed the "Realy McCoy" and not a fake. Should be making
the rounds in one way or another methinks.

Free the acetates !
